With snowfall levels approaching one meter, the French Alps are once again turning into a skier's paradise. According to EU Helpers, resorts like Chamonix, Les Gets, and Morzine have received a fresh covering of snow, making the ideal circumstances for fans of winter sports.
According to ski weather forecasts, Italy has also reported 50 centimeters of snowfall, while Austria and Switzerland have reported a hearty 30 centimeters.
The change in weather is in line with forecasts from past El Niño years, when mild and rainy weather first occurs in Europe and then colder and drier weather from January to March. If this pattern holds true, European ski resorts might see one of the strongest ski seasons in recent memory, marked by more consistent and substantial snowfall.
Where Should I Go in January?
With more than 50 resorts anticipating a substantial amount of snowfall, Austria is perfect for a spectacular ski season. Right present, snowfall levels are almost fifteen hundred percent over average, which creates the perfect winter skiing conditions. Certain high-altitude resorts, such as Stuben am Arlberg and St Anton am Arlberg, have experienced snowfall levels higher than three meters.
With a meter of snowfall expected at prominent resorts across the Pyrénées and the French Alps in January, France is another destination that ski enthusiasts should think about. Particularly in the previous 72 hours, there has been significant snowfall in Courchevel and Val Thorens, with totals of 140 cm and 117 cm, respectively.
With snowfall in the Italian Alps due to low pressure from the North Atlantic, "real winter" has finally arrived in Italy. With more than half a meter of snow above 1,000 meters, the finest places to ski right now are La Thuile in the Aosta Valley, Livigno in the Alps, and Val Gardena in the Dolomites. Above 1,500 meters, the Apennines are expected to receive snowfall as well.
This season, the Swiss ski resort of Verbier opened three weeks ahead of schedule. Several resorts, including Davos Klosters, Melchsee-Frutt, and Engadin in St. Moritz, have benefited from the recent snowfall. Snow levels have risen to more than three meters in Saas-Fee, which is close to the Italian border.
The slopes promise a winter paradise for everyone to enjoy, regardless of whether tourists' favorite locations are the well-known ski resorts in Switzerland, the gorgeous slopes of the French Alps, the high-altitude resorts of Austria, or the picturesque landscapes of Italy.
