The European Union is simplifying the process for foreign workers to obtain work and residency permits, aiming to promote legal migration of third-country nationals and address labor shortages, according to EU helpers. With the support of the European Union Parliament, regulations are being streamlined to introduce a Single Permit system, enabling individuals to work and live within the EU. The new update brings several enhancements to the Single Permit system, including faster decision-making on applications, the ability for permit holders to change employers, and extended stay options for unemployed permit holders.
Notably, decisions on Single Permit applications will now be mandated within a 90-day timeframe, significantly reducing waiting periods. These changes offer greater flexibility and protection for third-country nationals seeking employment in the EU. While the new rules await approval from the Council, Member States will have two years to implement them into national law, except for Denmark and Ireland.
