Twenty percent or nearly one-quarter of the population in the EU countries in 2022 was 65 years of age or older. This highlights the need for high-quality healthcare services, which the COVID-19 epidemic brought to light in particular. While there are significant variations throughout cities, seven out of ten citizens are content with local healthcare services.
Compared to the eastern Member States, where five out of ten citizens are pleased (53 per cent), Member States have greater satisfaction ratings (84 per cent), meaning that nine out of ten residents value the healthcare services in their city.
The survey also shows that Ostrava (80%) and Prague (82%), two Czech cities, fared better than the average for cities in the eastern Member States. In a similar vein, the satisfaction rates of the Italian cities of Bologna (80%) and Verona (77%), are significantly higher than the average of the cities in the southern Member States (61%).
Furthermore, 62 percent of residents in capital cities reported being less happy with their healthcare than residents in non-capital areas (71 percent).
