Mogan would be the first town in the Gran Canaries region to charge tourist fees and the latest in Spain as the protests about overtourism in the country have continued sporadically.
Tourist Taxes in Spain: Here Is What to Expect
The 15 cents tax is perhaps the least expensive incentive in Spanish destinations, especially compared to taxes in Barcelona.
Tourist fees in Barcelona are the most expensive, which stand between €5 and €7.50, depending on the accommodation type, with hotels that are highly rated charging more.
The Balearic Islands have imposed fees between €1 and €4 per night, and the type of accommodation defines what kind of fee tourists pay, starting from day campers who pay the least to those who stay at luxury hotels, who are required to pay the highest fees.
Valencia, too, has imposed tourist taxes, which can vary between €0.50 and €2 per night, depending on the type of accommodation that tourists pick.
In addition to the Spanish destinations, these European cities and destinations have announced tourist taxes, which will become effective in 2025.
