EU Helpers notes that a story from the Expresso daily claims that many more Russian Jews with fascinating backgrounds enjoy the same privilege and can therefore avoid the baking limits.
The initial dispute surrounding the plan concerned Roman Abramovich, the former owner of Chelsea Football Club, and his naturalization procedure. Alexander Boroda reportedly attested to Abramovich's credentials, according to Expresso.
According to the newspaper report, "we examined 115 names that were not well-known to the public for four months, and 25 of them—including Boroda—unveiled profiles deemed significant, either because of the positions they held professionally or because of their personal connections."
According to the newspaper, 16 of the 25 individuals on the list have already been granted Portuguese nationality.
Rules for obtaining nationality do not apply to applicants whose applications were already in the system prior to new modifications being implemented in March of last year, despite the fact that Portugal's Nationality Law has been tightened.
As to the report, CIP stated that the primary objective of the process was to certify Russian Jews who have Portuguese ancestry.
The same emphasized that the community doesn't need to know if they are wealthy or not, or if they have any ties to Russia. Nor should it acknowledge that only Jewish billionaires should be referred to as oligarchs, and that no one from any other state should be in the same category.
Portugal's Golden Visa Program allows wealthy overseas investors who meet the required requirements and contribute a certain amount of money to become residents of the country.
However, the program has frequently been seen as an open door to a number of illegal activities, including as money laundering, tax fraud, and corruption. For this reason, the EU authorities have urged all nations who provide such programs to stop doing so.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the president of the nation, recently approved additional modifications to this program, one of which being the removal of real estate investment choices.
