In March of this year, the Italian authorities inaugurated the “THAMM Plus” programme in Tunisia. Through this programme, which offers training for those who want to work in the construction sector, Italy aims to grant visas to around 2,000 Tunisians within a three-year period.
By granting such a high number of visas to Tunisian construction workers who have been previously trained, Italy wants to help its country deal with the labour shortages. Moreover, this move will also have a positive impact on Tunisians, as the programme, among others, will also help them learn the Italian language and train them on safety at work.
Italy has seen a high number of workers from Tunisia in the last couple of years. By working together with Tunisia, the authorities are confident that by providing training within the country, they will be able to bring more specialised workers to Italy.
In addition to the construction sector, Italy is dealing with shortages in other fields across the country, too.
Italy Will Issue 10,000 More Visas to Care Workers in 2025
The Italian government just recently announced that the country is planning to increase the number of visas issued to foreign care workers.
Starting in 2025, in an experimental approach, the government said that 10,000 more visas would be issued to this category of workers.
However, with the increase in the number of visas, stringent rules will come into effect. As the government explained, applicants from countries whose citizens are considered to be more prone to submitting applications accompanied by fake documents will be processed more thoroughly and under stricter measures.
In total, Italy plans to grant 165,000 visas to foreign workers in 2025. This is a significantly higher number compared to this year and 2023, with Italy allocating 151,000 and 136,000 visas for foreign workers, respectively.
The government has set a quota for seasonal workers, too. As revealed, around 93,550 seasonal workers will be able to obtain an Italian Schengen visa in 2025. On the other hand, the maximum cap for this year for foreign seasonal workers is set at 89,050.
