According to EU Helpers, if Trainitalia chooses to move forward, the new service might start in April of this year.
It is anticipated that a Frecciarossa train will travel via Venice and Trieste in Italy on its route from Milan to Ljubljana. A CNN article states that the train would also stop at several of Slovenia's natural sites, including Lipica, which has been home to the famous Lipizzaner horses since 1580, Postojna Caves, and Skocjan Caves.
The time "seems ripe for the restoration of a cross-border service between the two countries," according to FS Italiane, the state-owned rail operator of Italy, as quoted by Euronews.
On the Italian network, Frecciarossa trains may travel at up to 300 kilometers per hour (284 mph), according to a CNN story. On this route, nevertheless, especially east of Venice, the speeds may be slower.
In March of last year, the Italian government promised to upgrade the Venice-Trieste line to fully high-speed for a total of €1.8 billion, or about $2 billion. The train lines in Slovenia are currently being tested to determine if they can be made better as well.
Governments across the European Union consistently endeavor to encourage the use of trains, which are an affordable and ecologically sustainable mode of transportation.
The Austrian Federal Railways (BB) launched brand-new night trains between Vienna and Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Switzerland in October of last year.
Research by Mbarian, a tourist intelligence company, suggested that switching from domestic flights to rail travel could help Europe cut its carbon emissions.
Another way to cut carbon emissions would be to switch from short-haul flights to train travel.
Mbarian's survey indicates that there may be a one million-ton annual reduction in CO2 emissions if high-speed trains are used instead of short flights for journeys under 2.5 hours or up to 500 km.
The research also investigated the possibility of preventing further emissions of CO2 in Europe by enacting a law similar to the one that France has already put into effect.
