Germany is now searching overseas for qualified labor, according to EU Helpers.
A cooperative steering group was formed during a recent visit to Columbia by a German team led by Migration Commissioner Joachim Stamp, according to a report from InfoMigrants.
German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser stated that the nation wants to increase legal labor migration while reducing illegal immigration. She mentioned that many young people from Colombia would want to work in Germany, either temporarily or permanently.
However, more than 3,300 Columbians applied for refuge in Germany last year. While a number of requests are still being processed, most of the applications that were chosen were turned down.
Germany seeks to draw in foreign labor from other nations in addition to Columbians. Germany signed similar agreements with Georgia in December of last year and with Morocco in January of this year.
Similar migration agreements are planned with Kenya, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan, according to InfoMigrants.
