According to EU Helpers, the issue broke out a few days ago and comes before the national elections, which are scheduled for October 15 and have had immigration as their main topic of discussion.
Three persons have reportedly been detained thus far in connection with the claims, according to Daniel Lerman, deputy director of the National Prosecutor's Office's Department for Organized Crime and Corruption.
But he declined to say whether former deputy foreign minister Piotr Wawrzyk was among those being held accountable.
After Deputy Minister Wawrzyk was dismissed on August 31 as a result of a search by the Polish Central Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA), the opposition of the nation has charged him of being a key player in the sale of work visas.
Although the Ministry asserts that Wawrzyk's removal was the result of "a lack of satisfactory cooperation," Mateusz Morawiecki, the country's prime minister, revealed on Monday that Wawrzyk's firing was connected to the CBA probe.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be the subject of a new ad hoc examination involving the controversy by the Polish Supreme examination Office in the coming days. In a statement on the former Twitter, now X platform, its president, Marian Bana, claimed that this might be one of the biggest scandals in the history of the nation.
According to media sources, since 2021, immigrants from Asia and Africa have received almost 250,000 visas from Poland's consular sections in nations like Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, the Philippines, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.
More than any other Member State, Poland has issued roughly two million visas to new immigrants from outside the EU during the past three years. Poland alone issued 600,000 work visas to non-EU residents in 2020, a large portion of the 2.2 million visas issued across all EU nations, compared to Germany's over 18,000, the Czech Republic's 41,000, and Italy's 50,000.
According to Polish media, the Ministry of Diplomacy's management has been aware of the scheme for a very long time.
