When asked which country they would prefer to visit for an extended amount of time in Europe, Australian respondents answered France 38% of the time and Italy 27% of the time.
Similar preferences were seen among Canadian respondents, with 38% choosing France and 27% favoring Italy as their favorite European travel location.
Culture and history were selected by 48% of Australian respondents as their preferred activities while visiting Europe.
Street art and the idea of slow travel tied for the number one spot among city life activities among Australian travelers with 33% each.
On the other side, 46% of Canadian respondents said that they would much rather engage in cultural and historical activities while traveling to Europe. Activities related to city living, such as discovering street art, were closely behind at 32%.
Additionally, 31% of Canadians thought that engaging in gastronomic experiences would be their ideal activity while traveling to Europe.
Canadian tourists made a stunning comeback in Europe after the pandemic, with a staggering 2,933% increase in visits to Italian hotspots and a noticeable 632% increase in visits to France.
On the other hand, 130,510 Australian citizens returned from Italy in the summer of 2023.
